2023-2024 School Climate Surveys

Your Feedback Matters! Access survey here

The School Climate Surveys are an integral part of the District’s efforts to promote school improvement and educational accountability. School Climate Surveys of parents, students, and staff have been annually administered in the Miami-Dade County Public School district since the early 1990s. The purpose of these surveys is to gather information regarding what these groups think about the school and their perceptions concerning how the school can be improved.

Winter Break At-Home Activities

The Division of Academics, through the Office of Academics and Transformation, has prepared an array of engaging Winter Break Activities. These activities, available on the Division of Academics website, offer fun and educational experiences for students.

From online Reading and Math Challenges, Social Studies Trivia, and Science explorations, these activities are designed to engage and enhance student learning across various grade levels and interests.

We encourage you to explore these activities with your children. While not mandatory, they’re a great way for our students to continue learning in an enjoyable manner during the break.

Let’s make this Winter Break a time of exploration and fun learning.

Thank you for your support, and have a wonderful Winter Break ahead.

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Procedures

torch

The National Junior Honor Society chapter of North Miami Middle School is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in five areas of evaluation: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Students are selected for membership by majority vote of a five-member principal-appointed faculty council, which bestows this honor upon qualified students on behalf of the faculty of our school each March.

Students in grades 7th and 8th are eligible for membership. For the scholarship criterion, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. Each Spring, those students who meet this criterion are invited to complete a Candidate Form that provides the faculty council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service.

Eligible candidates must participate in at least two student activity organizations each year (e.g. Student Government, Science Club, 5000 Role Models, TIARAs, etc.) and 10 hours of documented community service outside of your place of worship.

To evaluate a candidate’s character, the faculty council uses two forms of input. First, school disciplinary records are reviewed. Second, members of the faculty are solicited for input regarding their professional reflections on a candidate’s service activities, character, and leadership.

Any solicited faculty input and all Candidate Forms are carefully reviewed by the faculty council to determine membership. A majority vote of the council is necessary for selection. Candidates are notified regarding selection or non-selection according to a predetermined schedule.

Following notification, a formal induction ceremony is held at the school to recognize all the newly selected members. Once inducted, new members are required to maintain the same level of performance (or better) in all four criteria that led to their selection.

March 1, 2024 is the deadline to turn in Candidate Form to the NJHS Adviser.

May 15, 2024 6:00p.m. will be the date of the induction ceremony.
